Barbara McPhillips competing with Gyps using Cavallo Sport Boots

Gyps featured above with Barbara McPhillips and Davide Rimmer is ridden and driven in Cavallo hoof boots, but goes barefoot when possible.  Cavallo Sport boots are Gyps’ favourite. 

I asked Barbara for a top tip and she gave me three:  Use a qualified barefoot trimmer; listen to Pete Rameys barefoot DVD series; use Cavallo hoof boots.

Here are some photos and radiographs of Gyps’ hooves taken less than 12 months apart after her shoes had been taken off. The changes show a thicker sole with greater concavity, and better alignment of the hoof wall with the pedal bone after her shoes were removed and Gyps had been receiving a professional barefoot trim.
